Small Group Indigo Workshop (Up to 4 People)

A quiet, hands‑on workshop for small groups, focusing on one traditional Japanese technique: Shibori, Katazome, or Indigo dyeing basics.

This short course is designed for those who wish to experience Japanese textile techniques in an intimate group setting.
Participants work with instant indigo vats for practical dyeing, while also having the opportunity to see Emi’s Japanese heritage indigo vat and create a tiny sample from it if they wish.

Choose One Technique

Shibori – Japanese Resist Patterning

Learn the foundations of shibori through folding, binding, stitching, and compression.
You will prepare cloth, create your pattern, and dye it in the instant indigo vat to reveal clear, expressive shapes.

Katazome – Rice‑Paste Resist

Experience the quiet discipline of katazome using rice paste and stencils.
You will apply paste, allow it to dry, and dye your cloth to create soft, atmospheric patterns.

Indigo Dyeing Basics

Focus on simple dipping techniques to understand how cloth transforms through oxidation.
Ideal for beginners or those wanting a gentle introduction to indigo.

participants will have the chance to:

• See Emi’s Japanese fermented indigo vat

• Observe the indigo flower and surface movement

• Learn how fermentation influences colour
